📦 What Is This Product

Mold Rack — Roll-Out Drawer Storage Engineered for Heavy Tooling

Mold racks (also called mould racks, die storage racks or pull-out drawer racks) replace traditional pallet shelves with reinforced cantilever drawers that extend 100% out of the rack on industrial-grade rollers or telescopic rails. The mold is craned in or out at any level without disturbing adjacent drawers, eliminating the danger of stacked-mold collapse.

Standard in plastic injection molding plants, automotive stamping shops, die-casting foundries, rubber molding factories, and toolrooms — anywhere expensive precision tools (typically USD 5,000–500,000 each) need safe, fast, organised access.

⭐ Benefits

Why Mold Racks Pay Back Within One Production Cycle

Eight engineering and operational advantages that explain why mold drawer racking is the standard storage system for injection molders, stamping shops and die-casting foundries worldwide.

🏋️

Heavy Drawer Load

Single drawer rated 1,000–8,000 kg. Roller-bearing or telescopic rail system tested to 1.5× working load per EN 15512.

📤

100% Pull-Out

Drawer extends fully clear of rack — overhead crane, jib crane or chain hoist lifts mold without dismantling rack frame.

🔒

Safety Lock

Drop-in safety pin locks drawer closed during forklift travel; spring lock prevents accidental drawer roll-out during seismic events.

Fast Tool Change

Cut average mold-change downtime by 40–60% vs floor stacking — operator locates and extracts mold in under 90 seconds.

🛡️

No Stacking Damage

Each mold sits on its own drawer — eliminates the scratch, dent and corner-chip risk of traditional ground-stacking on wood pallets.

📐

Modular Layout

Drawer pitch adjustable at 100 mm increments — mix 2 T and 5 T drawers in the same upright frame to match mold size variety.

🌡️

Indoor or Tool Yard

Standard powder coat for indoor toolrooms; HDG 80–120 μm for outdoor / unheated tool yard storage.

📊

ERP-Ready Labelling

Optional bar-code label holder + RFID slot on every drawer face — integrates with MES / ERP for real-time mold inventory tracking.

📌 Engineering Note: For drawer-type systems, always specify fully-extended drawer load (mold sitting at 100% pull-out, max tipping moment) — not static-shelf load. A drawer rated "5 T static" may only sustain 3 T at full extension per EN 15512 §11. For pallet-rack mold storage, ensure the mold-to-pallet interface is engineered (steel cradle, anti-slip pad, or bolt-down points) — molds resting on standard wood pallets are a tip-over risk.

📐 Design Guide

How to Specify a Mold Rack Layout in 3 Decisions

Drawer capacity, crane access and aisle pull-out clearance drive 85% of total mold storage project cost. Get these three right before sizing uprights.

1

Drawer Capacity — Size for Heaviest Mold

Survey your mold inventory by weight band. Always spec drawer capacity for your heaviest 90th percentile mold, not the average — under-spec drawers fail catastrophically.

  • ≤ 1,000 kg molds — 1 T drawer rack, 5 levels
  • 1,000–3,000 kg — 3 T standard, 3–4 levels
  • 3,000–5,000 kg — 5 T heavy-duty, 2–3 levels
  • 5,000–8,000 kg — 8 T extra-heavy, 1–2 levels
2

Crane Access — Hook Height Above Top Drawer

Overhead crane hook must clear top drawer at full extension + sling height. Otherwise top drawer becomes inaccessible.

  • Min hook clearance — top drawer + 1.5 m sling
  • Jib crane radius ≥ drawer pull-out + 1 m
  • For tall buildings, prefer 2 lower drawers vs 3 tall
  • Chain hoist OK for ≤ 3 T drawers only
3

Aisle Width — Pull-Out + Walk Clearance

Aisle must accommodate fully-extended drawer PLUS clearance for crane hook approach and operator safety zone.

  • Min aisle = drawer depth × 1.05 + 1.5 m walk
  • 1.2 m drawer → 2.8 m aisle minimum
  • 1.5 m drawer → 3.1 m aisle minimum
  • Double-sided rack → each side needs full aisle
📊 Mold Inventory → Recommended Rack ConfigurationMatch the weight band to drawer capacity for safety + cost optimum

❓ FAQ — B2B Procurement

15 Procurement Questions Buyers Ask Before Placing a Mold Rack Order

Answered for toolroom managers, plant engineers, manufacturing operations heads, and procurement officers comparing 3–5 mold rack suppliers. If your question is not covered, WhatsApp Lily at +86 188 2453 7792.

01What is a mold rack and why do I need one instead of floor stacking?
A mold rack (also called mould rack, die storage rack, or pull-out drawer rack) is a heavy-duty drawer system where each mold sits on its own roll-out drawer that extends 100% clear of the rack for crane lifting. Floor stacking causes corner chips, paint scratches, rust and worker injuries — typical hidden cost is USD 2,000–20,000/year in mold damage, which exceeds mold rack capex within 12–24 months for any toolroom with 30+ active molds.
02What is the maximum drawer load capacity?
Standard catalogue range: 1 T (1,000 kg) for light-duty up to 8 T (3,000 kg) for extra-heavy automotive stamping dies. Custom 5 T and 8 T drawers available for forging die and very large BIW stamping projects — these use structural-grade telescopic rails and double-pin seismic locks. All capacities are fully-extended drawer load per EN 15512 §11, not optimistic "static shelf" ratings.
03Do drawers extend 100% out of the rack for crane access?
Yes for 1 T and above — our standard telescopic 3-section rails deliver 100% extension so the mold clears the rack frame entirely and the overhead crane hook drops vertically. Light-duty 1 T drawers using cheaper roller-bearing rails extend 95%. Always specify your crane hook approach angle when quoting — vertical drop needs 100%, side-approach jib crane can work with 95%.
04What rail technology do you use — industrial or furniture grade?
Industrial-grade telescopic rails only — chrome-steel ball bearings inside drawn-cup races, pre-greased lithium EP-2 lubricant, rated 100,000+ cycle service life. We source from certified bearing suppliers, NEVER from furniture-grade slide manufacturers (5,000-cycle life, suitable for kitchen drawers but not 3-ton molds). This is one of the most common corner-cutting points in cheap-import mold racks — always verify with any quote.
05What is the MOQ — can I order less than a full container?
Standard MOQ is 1 unit . We can accept small orders and LCL shipments with other customers to the same destination port, but this will generally result in higher shipping costs. I recommend purchasing a minimum of one 20GP container for lower overall costs. If you have other suppliers in China, we can also send the mold racks to your suppliers.
06How long is the lead time from PO to ready-for-shipment?
Light-duty 500 kg: 5 days. Standard 1–2 T: 3 days. Heavy-duty 5 T: 15 days. Extra-heavy 8 T: 20 days (longer due to structural-grade telescopic rail lead time from bearing supplier). HDG outdoor variant adds 5 days for galvanising dip cycle. Custom heat-resistant drawer beds for die-casting add 7 days.
07What payment terms do you accept for B2B buyers?
Standard terms: 30% T/T deposit on PO confirmation, 70% balance against B/L copy before vessel sails. Alternative: 100% irrevocable L/C at sight from a top-50 bank. For repeat customers with 3+ orders, we also offer OA 30/60 against credit insurance (Sinosure / Coface).
08Are your mold racks compliant with EN 15512 / RMI MH16?
Yes. All mold rack designs are engineered to EN 15512 (general racking with §11 drawer extension requirements), RMI MH16 (US/Canada), AS 4084 (AU/NZ). Drawer rails are individually load-tested at 1.5× rated capacity per EN 15512 §11.3.2 before shipment. Stamped FEA calculation reports run in RFEM 5 / ETABS provided on request — required by most insurance providers and seismic-zone municipal codes.
09What steel grade do you use for mold racks?
Light/standard duty: Q235B cold-rolled and roll-formed sections. Heavy-duty 5 T and above: Q345B (equivalent to European S355JR), hot-rolled box section for uprights. Heat-treated 6 mm bed plate for die-casting applications. Steel sourced from Tier-1 Chinese mills (Baosteel, Shagang) under annual contracts — full mill test certificates (MTC) provided.
10Can you supply heat-resistant drawer beds for die-casting?
Yes. For aluminium and zinc die-casting molds that come off the casting machine at 200–300°C, we supply 6 mm heat-treated drawer bed plate with thermal-spacer isolators between bed and telescopic rail. This prevents rail bearing-grease melting and bed warpage. Verified in a Bursa die-casting foundry over 18-month commissioning — 5,000 load-cycles at 250°C with zero deformation.
11Do drawer racks have seismic safety locks?
Yes. Standard equipment on Zone 3–4 seismic projects: drop-pin lock + spring-loaded seismic latch. The drop-pin is manual operator action; the spring latch auto-engages whenever the drawer reaches closed position and requires a release lever to open. Twin-pin lock available for 8 T extra-heavy drawers. All seismic locks tested per EN 15512 + IBC seismic Cat-D requirements.
12Can you integrate bar-code and RFID for ERP / MES systems?
Yes. Standard option: welded bar-code label holder on each drawer face (A5 paper label + bar-code window). RFID option: passive UHF RFID tag slot recessed into drawer face + optional RFID antenna mount on the upright for hands-free crane operator reading. We have integrated with SAP, Oracle JD Edwards, Plex MES and dozens of custom MES systems — provide IT API spec for tag format mapping.
13How much cheaper are you than European / North American brands?
For equivalent EN 15512 / RMI MH16 spec with industrial-grade telescopic rails, AME Rack direct factory pricing is typically 30–45% below European brand-name suppliers (Stanley Vidmar, Lista, Rousseau, BAC) and 25–35% below North American brands (Equipto, Akro-Mils, Triton). We own the 15,500 m² plant outright and procure steel via annual mill contracts.
14Do you provide installation supervision for heavy mold racks?
Optional at USD 250/day + travel/visa. Strongly recommended for 5 T and 8 T projects — drawer rail bracket alignment tolerance is ±2 mm across the full upright; misalignment causes premature rail bearing failure. Most customers need 2–3 days of supervision for the first frame, then their crew handles remaining frames independently using our marked-up installation drawings.
15What after-sales support do you provide for international buyers?
Free spare parts list with every order for future expansion (3-year price-lock on commodity components). Spare telescopic rails shipment within 14 days by air or sea — rails are the most-replaced component due to crane mis-loading damage. Re-engineering service if you reorganise toolroom layout, free for 3 years post-installation. WhatsApp / email response within 4 working hours, Mon–Sat. English / Spanish / French / Arabic communication.
